Hank Roberts, world renowned Cellist, to perform in downtown Cortland on Thursday, May 3rd at the Blue Frog Coffeehouse, 64 Main Street.
"The Blue Frog's Folk Series is a great way to showcase a range of music and the Blue Frog coffeehouse is a great place to listen," said Karina Murphy, owner of the Blue Frog. "This series really allows us to bring a different caliber and style of music to Cortland."
This is a unique local opportunity to hear one of the premier cellists in the country perform. His music is cross-generational. Hank Roberts is an Ithaca-based local treasure with an international following (He's even listed in Wikipedia!). His music stretches boundaries of post-modern jazz, improvisation, classical music, Afrocentric rhythms, while also stretching the boundaries of cello sound in totally original ways.
With imagination and soulful playfulness Hank's music puts the listener in a zone as he weaves together voice and instrument. It is a pure feast for the ears, and as such reaches a broad audience. He plays from the heart - and that is what the music series is "from the heart of Central New York".
"Downtown Cortland is the place that commerce and culture in our community come together," said Lloyd Purdy, Executive Director of the Cortland Downtown Parntership. "This is a great example of art and culture working hand-in-hand with a unique downtown venue."
Thursday, May 3rd, the second performance of this year’s five part Folk Series at the Blue Frog features Hank Roberts. The show begins at 7:30 p.m. at 64 Main Street. This performance is supported by The New York State Music Fund, established by the New York State Attorney General at Rockefeller Philanthropy Advisors.
The Folk Series at the Blue Frog is a five-part performance featuring folk performers from around the region.
